The Sharmayu Group of Companies has been contributing to the national economy over many decades through its long involvement in the Ayurveda industry. As an integral component of this enterprise Sharmayu also serves the country, the nation and humanity through its commitment to community welfare projects across the length and breadth of the island. This is a service that continues to grow.

Pilgrim Support at Sri Pada

For over 35 years Sharmayu has been in the forefront of caring for pilgrims who climb the Holy Peak of Sri Pada. Throughout the six-month long pilgrim season beginning in January each year, the organisation serves the pilgrims with Sharmayu balm massages for weary limbs and Lakpeyava for relief from exhaustion, cold and ailments resulting from the threefold vaatha (air), pitha (bile) and sema (phlegm) imbalances. Sharmayu also provides rest rooms, pure drinking water and toilet facilities. Protecting the environment is an abiding Sharmayu concern shown through the provision of garbage disposal bins and programmes and strategies to create public awareness of the need to respect and love the environment.

Social Welfare at Religious Events

During annual religious events at the sacred locations of Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Seenigama, Getabaruva, and Ratnapura Saman Devale, Sharmayu provides care services for devotees, including financial assistance to the needy.

Environmental Awareness Programme

In addition, in schools, hospitals, public and private sector institutions Sharmayu has placed garbage disposal bins and displayed publicity materials relating to the protection of the environment.

Supporting Schools in Need

Sharmayu also provides assistance in curricular and co-curricular school activities. Children in need are also granted financial assistance.

Humanitarian Assistance during Natural Disasters

In the event of natural disasters that occur from time to time Sharmayu participates in the relief and rehabilitation effort. The organization has constructed new school buildings and provided financial assistance to students and refugees.

Conservation of Indigenous Medicinal Plants

Sharmayu cultivates valuable indigenous herbs on a large scale, providing a means of livelihood for the people in rural areas. The conservation of plants and herbs that are fast becoming extinct and endangered is another Sharmayu community service. The cultivation of indigenous herbs in school gardens is promoted thereby instilling in young minds awareness of the island’s valuable heritage of indigenous flora.
